Our teeth are meant to last a lifetime. Sometimes, however, sometimes a deep cavity or an injury that cracks the tooth can cause damage to the inner aspect of the tooth, called the pulp, where the network of blood vessels and nerves reside. If left untreated, the inflamed pulp can become infected and can cause further injury to the surrounding bone, resulting in swelling and pain.
Endodontic treatment, or Root Canal Therapy is performed to save the tooth, and to relive pain and swelling. This involves opening the tooth, removing the damaged pulp, and then sealing the tooth. Afterwards, a crown or other restoration can be placed on the tooth to protect and restore it to full function.
