Dentures are artificial replacements for your missing natural teeth and gums. If a trauma or poor oral health has resulted in loss of most or all of your teeth, dentures can replace your missing teeth. There are two types of dentures: complete and partial dentures. Complete dentures are used when all the teeth are missing, while partial dentures are used when some natural teeth remain. For both types, your dentist takes 3D impressions of your teeth to create a custom-made model for your dentures.
Partial dentures may be used when nearby teeth are not strong enough to hold a bridge, or when many teeth are missing. The artificial teeth of a denture are held in place by metal clasps that fit onto nearby natural teeth, and can be removed for cleaning and at night. Conversely, “full dentures” and are used when all your natural teeth are missing. Complete dentures are removable as they are held in place by suction.
